St Albans receives special award from Mayor

At the Mayor’s Reception on Monday 18 July, 2011, Mayor Mrs Joyce Underhill presented St Albans’ with a ‘Certificate of Appreciation’ for the Association’s ‘outstanding service to the community’.

The event was held at the Council House in Oldbury, and St Albans was only five recipients of these prestigious awards, given for recognition of good work done in the borough.

25th birthday - St AlbansOn the 21st September 2009, St Albans Community Association celebrated its 25th birthday.

The years have been turbulent, but recently, the centre has gone from strength to strength – achieving much to celebrate. During its life, many people have played a role in developing the centre and its activities, and it was good to see and hear from so many old friends and supporters on this special occasion.

A birthday party was held, and a lovely cake prepared for the celebration. Over 100 people came to celebrate with us and everyone enjoyed the event. Many cards and emails, expressing congratulations, were received from well wishers who, sadly, could not make it on the day.

Thanks to everyone, past and present, who have given and continues to give, so much to help make St Albans Community Association, the thriving social centre it has become. Thank you!

Among those present were some of the members from Holy Trinity and the former St Albans Church which was the Church responsible for setting up the Community Association and converting the former St Albans Church building. David Bryant, the architect, and his wife, Sheila, Rev Jim Potter and his wife, Irene, Ivan Parish, Sheila Wyld, Beryl Chandler and Jocelyn Marshall who was on the first Management Committee, 25 years ago.

“The 25th Anniversary was a fantastic occasion and I felt very privileged to be invited to share in the celebrations. I was amazed to see how many people had come along to enjoy the day – and tuck into the delicious buffet lunch! The happy and lively atmosphere spoke volumes about the continuing success of this Centre and the dedication of the Management and Staff. As one of the founder members, 25 years ago, it was a joy for me to see how it has become the centre of a very happy community.”
