Advocacy & Support Service funding success

St Albans has been successful in obtaining funding for 5 years from Big Lottery Reaching Communities to enable us to continue to offer our much needed Caring in a Crisis, Advocacy and Support Service.

Big LotteryThe new Big Lottery Reaching Communities Caring in a Crisis project was set up in January 2016.

The funding has enabled us to continue to provide a holistic approach to clients, helping with the multiple issues people face. It has continued to grow from strength to strength and is now in its second year of a five year Lottery funded project. Since the project began in January 2016 it has assisted 237 clients living in the Sandwell and surrounding area.

The service has continued to thrive and we are seeing a rise in benefit related queries, including rent arrears, eviction, council tax recovery and fuel arrears.

Using a caseload approach each client is baseline assessed and a resolution plan is devised indicating what the issues are and identifying any external agencies that may be involved.

With the advisor advising and guiding clients through each hurdle clients will learn the tools they need to become independent. They in turn will pass this information to friends and family and this knock on effect will continue to help the community in the long term.
