The Friendship Club has gone from strength to strength, working very closely with St Albans to provide a wide range of activities for older members of the community.
Working closely with St Albans Luncheon Club, The Friendship Club aims to alleviate loneliness and isolation and encourage participation in the activities we provide.
Regular weekly activities include:
Monday is Pamper Day and we also have a variety of fun quizzes so you can get your brain working.
Tuesday & Friday:
Bingo is a favourite for most of our clients; we now have bingo three times a week, due to demand. However, Mecca needn’t worry – our prizes are slightly smaller, so pose no threat to them. Nevertheless, everyone has a good time.
Awards for All have enabled us to continue with the bingo this year and we are very grateful to them.
On Wednesdays we offer a variety of activities including Brain workouts & sensory fun.
On Thursdays we do Gentle Exercise.
The Friendship Club continues to grow from strength to strength. We have held several theme days and trips over past years including beach parties, trips to Cadbury World, West Midlands Safari Park and Weston Super Mare.
We have also celebrated several of the calendar events over each year including Valentines, Easter, St Georges Day, Halloween, Remembrance Day and we held an extra special day ‘A Salute to Vera Lynn’. On average there are approximately 80 people attend each of our theme days.
Community Carol Service:
On 18th December 2014 Holly Lodge High School invited our older people to a community Carol Service where the Head Teacher, Mr Mohammed greeted our clients off the mini bus and escorted them to a greeting of mince pies, cake and a hot drink. The concert was very modern and all the children sang beautifully.
All of our clients said what a wonderful time they had and can’t wait till next year. Each client was furnished with a food hamper. Clients were waited on and made to feel very welcome.
