Many elderly people spend their days on their own, which can be incredibly lonely. Whilst some are simply unable to get around, those who can still often find they have no place to go. The St Albans Community Association works with the local community to provide a service that allows these people to meet up, make friends and enjoy a day of activities.

At the heart of our Day Opportunities service is a deep commitment to enhancing the quality of life for individuals of all abilities who may be feeling lonely or isolated. Every guest is valued, and our approach is centred on personalised care, dignity, and joy.
We proudly operate a door-to-door transport service throughout much of Sandwell, ensuring each guest arrives safely and comfortably. Upon arrival, our team provides thoughtful and compassionate support with mobility, mealtimes, and other individual requirements. Prior to attending, our day care manager will conduct a thorough assessment to ensure we understand and accommodate each guest’s unique needs.
What a Typical Day Looks Like:
• A warm welcome with tea, coffee, and toast to start the day.
• Gentle morning exercise, followed by engaging activities tailored to varying abilities and interests.
• Delicious, home-cooked lunch with a choice of meals and desserts, lovingly prepared in our Level 5 hygiene-rated kitchen.
• Afternoon sessions filled with optional activities, from arts and crafts to music and games.
Our diverse programme includes digital skills sessions, cake and biscuit making, creative arts, karaoke, quizzes, bingo, musical instruments, and more—providing opportunities to socialise, create, and laugh.
Flexible Options:
• Trial Visit: A one-off two-hour session (11:30am–1:30pm) for just £10 per person, including a two-course meal and drink. (Transport not included.)
• Full Day Attendance: £61.00 per day with full care, support, and activities.
• Funding Support: For guests from low-income households, we can assist in applying for funding to help cover the cost of attendance.
New! “Drop and Shop” Service:
Perfect for short appointments or shopping trips—leave your loved one in trusted hands for up to 2 hours between 10am and 3pm.
• £30 with a two-course meal
• £25 without meal Includes refreshments, activities, and support as needed. Advance booking required (same-day bookings may be possible based on availability).

That spirit of spontaneity, companionship, and care is exactly what our specialist transport service brings to life. More than just a lift from A to B, we offer a dedicated, door-to-door service designed to improve the wellbeing and independence of those in our local community.
Our fleet of three fully accessible minibuses, equipped for wheelchair users and tailored to support individuals with a wide range of physical needs, ensures safe and comfortable journeys for those who may struggle to access conventional transport.
This service is proudly subsidised through the generous support of Harborne Parish Lands Charity, The National Lottery (Awards for All), and Evesons Charitable Trust, allowing us to reach even more people with warmth, dignity, and reliability.
