The Elderberry Club

Many elderly people spend their days on their own, which can be incredibly lonely. Whilst some are simply unable to get around, those who can still often find they have no place to go. The St Albans Community Association works with the local community to provide a service that allows these people to meet up, make friends and enjoy a day of activities.

"Meeting new people, not feeling isolated as I did, I love coming to St Albans they make me feel so welcome. The food is very nice and the staff have helped me so much." ~ SB

To care for those who once cared for us is one of the highest honors.

Our Day Opportunities offer.

Aimed at people of all abilities who are lonely and isolated, our service is tailored to each individual’s needs.

Operating a door-to-door transport service covering the majority of Sandwell, we are able to offer personal care and assistance to each guest; supporting with mobility, feeding and any other requirements.

Our day care manager will make a full assessment and discuss any needs/requirements with each guest before they attend.

A typical day will include:

· Tea/coffee and toast upon arrival in the morning

· A morning session of gentle exercise, followed by a selection of fun activities.

· Our guests have a choice of meals and desserts for lunch; with all food prepared fresh in our level five hygiene rated kitchen.

· After lunch, there is a further selection of activities for clients to choose from

Activities include digital sessions, biscuit/cake making, arts and crafts, bingo, quizzes, games, karaoke, sing-a-long, musical instruments and more.

A one off trial session (11.30am -1.30pm) can be arranged for a cost of £6 but does not include transport. It does include a 2-course meal and a drink.

The cost of attendance is £51.00 per day.

Please note: If you are a low income household, we can support you to apply for funding to cover some or all of the cost of attendance.

We also offer a new “drop and shop” service. This must be prebooked in advance but can be done on the same day if capacity allows. For a cost of £25 with a 2-course meal or £20 without, you can drop off your loved one for a maximum of 2 hours between 10am and 3pm. They will be offered activities and refreshments with support if required and you will return to collect them at the agreed time, allowing you the freedom to go shopping or to attend an appointment without any concerns.

"It makes me feel happy, everyone is so nice to me. There are lovely dinners and puddings. It gets me out of the house and the staff are lovely." ~ DT

Everyone needs a friend that will call and say, “get dressed we are going on an adventure"

A crucial part of our service is to provide a caring, specialist transport service to improve the quality of life for people in the local area. Our fleet of 3 minibuses have wheelchair access and are subsidised with funding from Harborne Parish Lands Charity, The National Lottery (Awards for All) and Evesons Charitable Trust, and endeavour to make journeys for people with varying degrees of physical impairment and for those who struggle to access any other means of transport
