Driver/Carer – Day Opportunities
Job Summary
To work as part of the team as a carer/minibus driver for the centres Day
Opportunities transport provision, including routine safety checks on the vehicle.
Job description and responsibilities
- Provide care and support whilst in the centre to stimulate the clients.
- Engage clients in group and one-to-one activities.
- Befriend clients to assist in alleviating loneliness.
- Support clients to the toilet and assist with personal care if needed
To Cover driving duties when required
- Operating the routes, collecting vulnerable and elderly clients from given pickup points along the route and delivering them to St Albans; collecting them from St Albans and dropping them back at the given points.
- Whilst transporting the clients you will be responsible for their health and safety, comfort and welfare.
- Carrying out daily and weekly vehicle checks, and to carry out basic maintenance.
- Reporting any vehicle defects, faults, incidents, and accidents
- Ensuring the vehicle is in a clean and roadworthy condition before and after use.
- Refuelling vehicles as required.
- Delivering outmeals into vulnerable adults homes.
- Maintaining company image; working attire should be worn at all times and kept in a clean and tidy condition.
- Working within health and safety guidelines and other guidelines that may be issued from time-to-time
- Working within the constraints and guidelines as set out in the Minibus Drivers’ Operating Instructions.
Managing the Minibuses
- To maintain all records relating to the minibuses including the daily checks of the minibuses
- For all defects to be reported straight away, to act on any repairs by contacting the relevant people to get the repairs that need to be done and keep a record of all repairs undertaken.
- To make sure all records are kept up to date on Tax insurance and MOT. · Annually send dates to the garage to book in the 3 minibuses for the inspections. (January) with the help from Admin. · Make sure that all buses are kept clean inside and out · Make sure that all seat belts are not twisted.
- To report to Admin, 3 weeks before a reminder of when INSURANCE TAX and MOT are due to be updated on the relevant buses.
- To get drivers to take minibuses for a run once a week down the motorway. · Make sure all drivers have copies of relevant paperwork annually, Insurance details, dates of inspection, etc
Training
- Attending relevant training courses as identified and agreed including compulsory training such as Safeguarding, Health and Safety etc.
Person Specification
- Pleasant, patient and helpful personality.
- An ability to communicate with a range of people · Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
- Reliable and trustworthy.
- Flexible approach to working arrangements. · Sensitivity to user needs.
- Willing to undertake training as appropriate.
Experience, Skills and Knowledge
- Have an NVQ Level 2 Care Qualification
- Hold a current, clean and valid driving licence D1 unrestricted or a PCV licence or D1 restricted.
- Ability to maintain accurate vehicle and user records.
- Competent to undertake daily and weekly vehicle checks and carry out basic maintenance.
Desirable
- Geographical knowledge of Sandwell
CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
- Monday – Friday minimum 20hrs (to be discussed).
- The post carries a salary of £12.60 pro-rata.
- 5 weeks annual leave.
- Option to join company pension scheme.
- There is a 6-month probationary period.
