At Junipers Preschool, we understand from many years of experience that families sometimes need a helping hand. Our first thoughts always lie with the children and families we support, and we are committed to doing everything we can to ensure they receive the help they need when challenges arise.
While we do not currently have a designated Family Support Worker, we are committed to supporting our children, parents, and carers to the very best of our ability within the capacity of our preschool team.
We work closely with the Community Response Team based within the Centre, enabling us to connect families with a wide range of additional support services. By working together, we can help ensure that no family is left without the support they need. This may include simple signposting to local services, practical advice and guidance, or access to more intensive short- or long-term support, where appropriate.
Family support through wider determinants of health
Working with families and children through the WDH Sandwell project has created meaningful, long-term impact by providing early, holistic support that addresses wider determinants of health.
By supporting the whole family, the project has:
- Improved children’s wellbeing
- Strengthened family relationships
- Reduced the risk of issues escalating
- Broken cycles of disadvantage
- Increased engagement with education and community services
- Built more resilient households
Together, this contributes to healthier development for children and a stronger local community.
How the project supports families
The impact of this role has been substantial, strengthening the ability to provide holistic, family-centred care that directly supports children’s development.

- Practical assistance with everyday tasks Help with form filling, phone calls, and becoming digitally active empowers families to access essential services independently.
- Safeguarding and housing support Guidance and support during housing transitions ensure children remain safe and secure.
- Effective signposting and referrals Families are connected to the right support at the right time.
- Access to training opportunities Building confidence, skills, and resilience within families.
These interventions contribute to improved stability, wellbeing, and opportunities, enabling children to experience healthier development and more positive life outcomes.
