Accessibility

At St Albans Community Centre, we are committed to ensuring that everyone can access our facilities, services and activities safely and comfortably. We continually work to make our building welcoming and accessible to all members of the community.

Parking and Arrival

We operate four minibuses to transport disabled service users. To support this service, the perimeter road immediately outside the centre is kept clear for minibus access and visitor drop-offs.

  • Disabled passengers can be dropped off directly outside the main entrance.
  • Disabled drivers who require parking close to the building may reserve a parking space on our driveway immediately outside the centre. We ask that this is arranged in advance where possible.
  • Priority drop-off arrangements are available for visitors with mobility needs.
  • The route from the drop-off area to the building entrance is fully accessible.

Building Access

Our centre has a range of features to support accessibility, including:

  • A ramp from the main road to the main entrance.
  • Step-free access throughout the building.
  • Ramps at all three entrances and exits.
  • Automatic or power-assisted doors.
  • An accessible reception desk/counter.
  • A lift providing access to the first floor.
  • Wheelchair-accessible meeting rooms, halls and communal areas.
  • Evacuation chairs at the 2 main stairwells.
  • Good lighting and clear signage throughout the building to assist navigation.

Accessible Toilets

We have four accessible toilets located throughout the building, ensuring convenient access from all main activity areas.

Assistance and Support

We welcome assistance dogs throughout the building.

Our staff are happy to provide additional support where required, and we have procedures in place to support visitors with disabilities, including:

  • Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPs) where appropriate.
  • Assistance from trained staff if required.
  • Seating available throughout the building for those who may need to rest.

Neurodiversity-Friendly Spaces

We recognise that some visitors may benefit from quieter environments. Quiet spaces are available for neurodiverse visitors or anyone who may need a calm space during their visit.
